Congratulations, you “got down with the gown”! Now, it’s time to talk about making sure it fits you properly! Alterations will be necessary to ensure your dress fits your body, so here’s what you need to know…

Alterations Overview:

  • Most brides require 2-3 fittings and a pick up appointment. We suggest booking your appointments in advance, especially if you are in need of evening times. We book Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. First appointments are at 11am and last appointments are booked at 6pm.
  • At your appointment you will be paired with a Fantasia consultant and seamstress. Our Alteration’s manager is not with every appointment.
  • Please bring “day of” shoes and undergarments to every fitting.
  • Cost depends on gown style and complexity. Please refer to your contract for pricing. Price caps include taking in/out the body of the gown, your hem, and sleeve/strap length adjustments. Caps do not include cups, bustles, or custom work.
  • What is considered to be custom work? Anything that is changing the style of your gown. Some examples: Shortening train, adding/removing bead work or lace, adding/removing sleeves, adding gussets. Please contact our alterations manger for further information.
  •  At your appointment an associate will discuss alteration fees and collect a deposit prior to you meeting with the seamstress. Bridal fitting deposits are set at a minimum of $175.00 and all other fittings are a minimum of $50.00, unless otherwise stated on your original contract. Your deposit goes toward your alteration balance.

Alteration FAQs:
How Far In Advance Should I Begin My Alterations?
This is depending on how your gown fits when it comes in. For a bridal gown about 2-3 months in advance and for mothers/maids about 1 month in advance. It is highly recommended to book a “1st Time try on” appointment when your gown is in. At this appointment {without seeing a seamstress}our team can best determine when to start your fittings and help book them in advance. If custom work is being done please take that in to consideration book accordingly.

What Do I Need To Bring To All Fittings?
Please bring your “day of” shoes and undergarments {shape-wear, a bra, or a bustier}. The seamstress cannot accurately pin without these. If desired, our seamstress can sew cups directly into the bust of your dress. Cups are not recommended for bigger bust sizes as they do not give the same support as a bra or bustier.

How Long Is Each Fitting Appointment?
Each appointment is scheduled for one hour. This gives the seamstress and our alterations manager time to explain the process, go over the pricing and cost estimation, discuss travel recommendations, and help you find your accessories. If you believe that you will be at least 15 minutes late the day of your appointment, you may be asked to reschedule, as appointments are booked back-to-back in order to accommodate as many brides as possible.

When Can I Schedule My Alterations Appointment?
We schedule fitting appointments on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 11:00am-7:00pm, with the last fitting beginning at 6:00pm. Since we are limited in our availability, we ask that you schedule your fittings in advance, so that you may choose the day and time that works best for you before the schedule fills up with appointments.

Can I Get A Quote For The Cost Of Alterations Before Setting Up A Fitting?
Please give our alterations manager a call to help estimate what costs may be expected during your first fitting. An exact price quote will not be given until you are in the dress and the seamstress is able to pin it to determine the exact alterations estimate. If you choose to do alterations elsewhere after a first fitting, there will be a $50 pinning fee to remove the pins. Pricing for alterations typically ranges from $300-$800 on average. Keep in mind that elaborate beading and lace re-application can heighten the costs for your alterations.
